THE FAMILY OF FIRE CHIEF MARK PALMER

A family are true heroes. Fire Chief Mark Palmer has been chief with the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. A mentor to many, he personally takes it to heart when helping the community and families in need.

For 28 Days during Hurricane Katrina, his Fire Department hosted 58 people at their Station. Their little department raised over $180,000 in FOUR days and distributed it to our neighbors from New Orleans, Louisiana. He said it was the best 28 days of his life.

During Hurricane Harvey, he with his team rescued over 1000 people from their homes and cars, and helped house and feed nonstop in the following week after the flooding-yet all the while having to also evacuate his own family and grandchildren from their flooded homes. This hurricane marked the third time he lost his home due to flooding. In the meantime while deploying and managing National Guard troops, police, first responders and state troopers for relief efforts, he and his family are living in their motor home indefinitely.
